We live and buy more and more consciously. We want to know what our products contain, where they were made, what were the standards of the production process. No matter what we buy, whether it’s food, fruit, vegetables or cosmetics - we care about the quality of the items and how they were made. We are even more careful when it comes to purchasing products for our precious little ones, making sure that toys have certifications and safe to play with, whether fruits and vegetables purchased are organic and cautious with the choice of detergent to prevent any allergies.
The same questions should be asked when buying clothes. Usually, when seeing ‘100% cotton’ on labels we believe that we are dealing with a completely natural product. Nothing could be more misleading. The so-called ‘conventional world cotton industry’ uses approximately 25% of chemical insecticides and 10% of pesticides, defoliants, or artificial fertilizers, or dioxin-producing bleach . Of the fifteen known pesticides and herbicides, many of them are labelled carcinogens and this includes: acephate, dichloropropene, diuron, fluometuron, pendimethalin, tribufos, and trifluralin according to the Environmental Protection Agencies. On top of that, some products are made of organic cotton but the majority of farmers are nowadays growing organic genetically modified seeds as they are resistant to pests and diseases. Unfortunately, the cotton fibres produced have been linked to environmental destruction as well as allergies and skin irritation for its wearers, something that needs to be avoided especially for children.
100% organic cotton baby clothes made in Europe:
COODO organic baby clothes are made from GMO-FREE, GOTS certified cotton , which means that it meets all of the international production standards (from growing our cotton to colouring our garments) and social criteria (working conditions).
COODO sews baby clothes from organic cotton only, which is grown in a natural way with respect for the environment in which we live.
The organic cotton is sourced from organic farming, which does not apply any chemicals (pesticide and fertiliser free). As a result, it does not accumulate harmful substances. Organic farmers handpick the cotton, so the product is much cleaner. Its is then washed with natural ingredients. These treatments largely affect the cotton’s quality.
Clothes made out of such materials have only advantages, among which are the following:
- healthier - they don’t contain chemicals, they don’t irritate sensitive skin and they ‘breathe’ better
- nicer to touch - the materials are softer and thicker
- ethical and ecological - they are made with a great respect to the environment and people that make them.
- more durable - they don’t get worn out so quickly and they last longer. That’s why they can be worn by more than one child.
